Three DO’s and DON’Ts of your New Year Fitness Resolutions

Fitness resolutions are among the most popular in January. To help you reach your fitness goals, we’ve asked our customer and ISSA Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach, Chris Young, to share 3 DO’S and 3 DON’T’s towards building healthy fittness habits.
√ DO: Start slow.
X DON’T: Expect instant changes.
You can’t rush fittness goals; they happen over time so enjoy the small and big changes as you progress, changes like more energy and the satisfaction of keeping a promise to yourself. Eventually you’ll see physical changes as well as improved health stats!
√ DO: Keep it simple.
X DON’T: Get overwhelmed by creating a complicated plan.
Start with simple nutrition changes and a beginner workout plan to prepare your body to be able to do more.
√ DO: Ask for help.
X DON’T: Try to do it alone.
Ask for support from your family and friends. They can support you as accountability partners to keep your workouts consistent. They can also avoid tempting you with decadent dinners and drinks that could derail your progress. Also, consider help from a trainer. A trainer will assess your current level of fittness and create a program specific to YOUR goals while ensuring you progress safely.
Chris cautions people to be realistic. The primary goal for those new to fittness is to build the habits of a fit person – move daily, rest, and make smart nutrition choices to support your goals. Cooking with the Aurora Auto Pros
Fruit Salad Recipe Lemon Vanilla Glaze
Ingredients
Lemon Vanilla Glaze
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 4 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp lemon zest
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
Fruit Salad:
- 1 cup sliced red grapes
- 1 cup sliced green grapes
- 1 cup blueberries
- 1 cup sliced strawberries
- 1 cup cubed cantaloupe
- 1 cup cubed pineapple
- 1 cup cubed watermelon
Instructions
Lemon Vanilla Glaze
Stir the sugar, water, lemon juice, and lemon zest in a saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Cool toroom temperature and then cool completely in the fridge.
Fruit Salad
Put all fruit in a large bowl, pour the chilled glaze over it, and stir to combine. Cover and store in the fridge.
