Ten Tips For Aurora Drivers: Celebrating 10 Years In The Business!
Today, we celebrate ten years in the business! WOOHOO!! We hope to see many of you at our event today, where we’ll give out lunch and allow you to meet our incredible team. In the spirit of ten years in business, we’re giving out ten tips for Colorado drivers! The following come up pretty often in our shop, and they’re equally useful for long-time Coloradans and new residents in our state.
1. Preventative maintenance is key
Maintaining your vehicle regularly can help you save significant money in the long run. Investing in preventative maintenance lets you detect potential problems before they escalate into major issues.
Regular oil changes, tire rotations, and tune-ups keep your vehicle running smoothly, improving fuel efficiency and lifespan. This means you can avoid costly repairs, save money on gas, and reduce the need for costly replacements.
By prioritizing preventative maintenance, you can enjoy a worry-free driving experience, avoid unexpected breakdowns, and ensure your vehicle remains in tip-top shape for many years.
2. Check your battery
Cold weather can cause a car's battery to lose power, making it difficult to start the engine. In Aurora, where temperatures can drop below freezing during the winter months, it's especially important to have a healthy battery. If your car's battery is more than three years old, it may be time to have it tested and potentially replaced.
A weak battery can also strain your car's alternator, leading to additional problems with your car's electrical system. Signs that your battery may be weak include difficulty starting the engine, dim headlights, and a slow or weak crank when you turn the key.
3. Keep an emergency kit in your car
With winter driving comes the risk of getting stranded. Keep a kit with essentials like a flashlight, blankets, extra warm clothing, non-perishable food, and water in your car. This should stay in your car in the warmer seasons and be checked before camping or traveling.
4. Avoid distracted driving
Distracted driving is a leading cause of accidents in Aurora and Colorado. Aurora is such a pedestrian friendly city–just one second of distraction can end up deadly. Please, please, please don’t drive while distracted! Avoid using your phone or other distractions while driving.
There are tons of ways to keep distracted driving completely off the table. It’s always a great idea to just pull over and take a call or send a text if it’s really urgent! Some apps will automatically reply to those who text you that lets them know you’re driving, and there are hands free options as well.
5. Keep your car clean
Whether you live in Aurora, somewhere in the mountains of Colorado, or across the country in New York–keep your car clean! It’s one of those things that makes a huge impact even if it doesn’t feel like it does.
Cleaning the inside of your car, such as the floor mats and upholstery, can also help prevent the accumulation of dirt and dust which can interfere with the car's performance. Finally, a clean exterior can help ensure that your car is visible to other drivers and pedestrians, which can help avoid accidents. For these reasons, it is important to keep your car clean for your vehicle's safety.
6. Know your route
Aurora has some confusing intersections, so knowing your route is essential before you start driving. Use a GPS system or map to plan your route ahead of time.
With commuter traffic becoming more and more prevalent, you may want to test out a few different routes. In fact, did you know going different routes each day can help decrease your chances of Alzheimer’s?! I highly suggest knowing your route and being familiar with some alternates.
7. Check your tires regularly
Aurora, Colorado experiences some harsh winter conditions, so regularly checking your tires for proper inflation and tread depth is essential. As temperatures switch between cold and warm, this is especially important! This can help ensure optimal handling and traction on snowy and icy roads.
8. Be prepared for wildlife
Aurora is located near open space and natural areas, so be prepared for encounters with wildlife. Especially when you begin your camping and hiking adventures, keep an eye out for animals such as deer, elk, or coyotes. Here in the city we’re more accustomed to watching for cats, dogs, or birds, but the stray coyote has been known to lurk the streets! Be especially cautious when driving in the early morning or evening.
9. Explore your city
Aurora has so much to offer. We are lucky ducks to live here in Colorado–where hiking trails are prevalent, Coors Field has a terrific view of the mountains, and culture is all around us. Aurora is much the same! I just had to put this on our list of advice–drivers in Aurora, don’t forget to explore your city!
