Welcome to Aurora AutoPros’ blog! We post at least one new entry per month, usually concerned with some aspect of auto repair. As our auto mechanics encounter new issues and challenges, we pass on what we’ve learned to our customers. Our topics range from tips for driving to advice on dealing with weather changes to happenings and events in Aurora & the Denver metro area.

Clear Eyes on the Road

While primarily temperate in the summer, Colorado weather can be unpredictable. We know to expect hot, dry summers, but at any time, unexpected rains can come– just as unexpected snow comes in late Spring. The long, hot summer can wear out our windshield wipers, cracking the rubber.

It’s vital to always have clear eyes on the road when you’re driving. Just as distractions can cause terrible accidents, so can a lack of perception of potential threats due to an obscured or cloudy windshield. It’s essential to check on the condition of your wipers and make sure they are at their best.

An obstructed wiper, unable to cross a windshield gracefully, is ineffective. The same goes for wipers that leave streaks or fail to touch the windscreen completely. If you haven’t checked in a while, look at them now– are there streaks on the windshield? Are there areas not touching the glass? Is the rubber cracked?

If you aren’t sure, stop by– we can tell you if you need new windshield wipers with a quick look at them. But the most important clue is if you hear your wipers. Wipers that make noise require help, just as brakes that squeal do. It would be best if you replaced chattering, shaking wipers.

Equally essential is keeping enough of your windshield wiper fluid. California and Colorado fires can create dust and ash on windshields, and your wipers alone can’t remove it. Be sure that your wiper fluid has been updated at least twice a year for safety. If you need maintenance on your vehicle, please schedule an appointment with Aurora AutoPros as soon as possible.
