There's nothing like spending a day in the Colorado mountains. The crisp mountain air, the dazzling views, and the colorful fall foliage are all reasons that make this state so unique. If you're looking for an excuse to get out of town this fall, check out these five unique places in Colorado where you can enjoy all three!
Georgetown Loop Railroad
The Georgetown Loop Railroad is a historic railroad in Colorado that offers panoramic views of the continental divide and the surrounding mountains. This is a popular attraction, so it's recommended that you book your tickets in advance. The Georgetown Loop Railroad isn’t too far from the Denver metro area, either. You can stop in Idaho Springs for some Beau Jo’s pizza or make a picnic!
Rocky Mountain National Park
Rocky Mountain National Park is a great place to go for fall colors. The park is in north-central Colorado, and in the fall, it's a great place to hike, bike, and fish. There are many different trails at Rocky Mountain National Park, so you can choose one that matches your fitness level.
Maroon Bells
Maroon Bells is a mountain range in Colorado. It is located in the Elk Mountains, part of the Rocky Mountains. The Maroon Bells are two peaks about 14,000 feet high. The area attracts many visitors yearly and is famous for hiking and backpacking.
Cherry Creek State Park
Who says you can’t get autumn views in Aurora? You don’t have to leave town to see the leaves change at Cherry Creek State Park! While camping may start to be out of the question, as the weather this time of year is pretty unpredictable, you can get a day pass to the hiking trails or dog park to view the trees.
Aspen
Aspen, Colorado, is one of the best places to enjoy the autumn foliage around Colorado. With its breathtaking mountain views and picturesque landscape, it's no wonder that people flock here every fall to witness the changing leaves. The Aspen trees are usually at their peak color around mid-October, with their leaves turning into shades of yellow, orange, and red. The best way to see them is from a distance because they're so big that they'll block your view if you get too close.
Manitou Incline
Want a challenge? The Manitou Incline is not for those looking for a simple hike! The Manitou Incline is one of the best places to enjoy autumn foliage around Colorado. The hike up this mountain is steep and challenging, but the reward at the top makes it all worth it. There are multiple routes up the mountain, but most take between 1-3 hours to complete. The Manitou Incline has 2,744 steps–so it’s not the best place to bring your kiddos! However, this is the place if you’re a fitness nut and want to earn those views!
