Fall = Time to Literally & Figuratively “CHILL” ❄️ ❄️ ❄️
By Renee Leon
October is one of my favorite months. School is well underway, the changing season can be seen and felt, and goofy Halloween decor is showing up in our neighborhood. It’s a delightful month before the year speeds to a close with a busier social calendar and year-end deadlines.
Consider taking October to pause and chill while you can. Savor a warm drink (perhaps a pumpkin spiced latter?) and maybe take a trip to the mountains to witness the gorgeous fall foliage. This chill-time is also an ideal time to catch up on the tasks you meant to do but that fell off the list in the busy-ness of August and September.
- Make the appointments – dentist, veterinary checkups, wellness checks, and car maintenance (see the Winterizing Special below 😉)
- Call your childhood/college bestie back and enjoy a meandering conversation
- Skip the endless scrolling on social media and tuck into a good book or binge a show with your significant other
- Make space for a spontaneous “yes” when someone has a hair-brained idea (see the Community and Arts sections below!)
Everyone is busy. Winter holidays will likely feel hectic. Take October and “fall” into a pattern of chill!
When we opened our doors (almost 10 years ago!), we made a goal to ACTIVELY give back to the community. Over the years we’ve made good on this promise in various ways. This is our third time initiating our brakes-related donation campaign: our first time we donated $1400 to Aurora Ready to Work, the second time we donated $1000 to the Village Exchange Center. For our third Donation Campaign we have chosen Comitis Crisis Center as our October 2022 recipient.
And since we KNOW that we have incredible customers who will help spread the word, we want this donation to be eye-popping!
Throughout October we're donating 10% of brake-related proceeds to Comitis, Aurora's ONLY night shelter for people experiencing homelessness. Merely get your brakes inspected for free. IF you need brake-related repairs, we will donate 10% of the proceeds of those repairs to Comitis.
Comitis hosts over 140 beds for adults, families, veterans, and people in recovery, and is open every night to guests between 5 pm and 7 am. For over 50 years, Comitis has been providing effective and accessible services offering critical intervention, emergency housing, short-term treatment, follow-up aftercare, community outreach and preventive education. These are offered to homeless, near-homeless, and the working poor of all ages. Services are provided 100% free of charge and includes: food, clothing, shelter, case management, parenting classes, functional family therapy, employment training, workforce development, life skills, financial literacy classes and bus tickets.
Comitis has a vision of ending homelessness by inspiring hope and providing life-changing resources that ensure everyone has a home and is thriving!
You know that brakes are a necessary maintenance service. If you need it, why not do it in October and be a part of this campaign?! If you want to make your OWN donation, you can do so here: https://comitiscrisiscenter.org/comitis-crisis-center
