Slowing Down for Summer
By Renee Leon

Summer – it’s here. And if you’re like me, in mid-May, the June/July calendars were already jam-packed and feeling as if the summer is ALREADY OVER. But today, as I write this, I’ve been given the opportunity to slow way down and be fully present.

Our 6-year-old dog, sweet Maggie, started feeling unwell last week. We had to admit her to the hospital for 6 days and make a tough choice not to proceed with a major surgery. Maggie got to come home, away from all the stress of hospital life, and try to feel better with meds and her family loving her. After having her home for 24 hours, I’ve been struck by how quickly I shifted out of “so busy, gotta rush” mode and into one of extreme gratitude for the gift of a little more time.

So, June’s article is simply an invitation to slow down this summer. Enjoy time with your loved ones, the 4 legged and the bipedal, because time speeds by fast enough; no need to rush it along by always looking ahead. Below, in the Community and Arts sections, you’ll see fun local events to enjoy with your friends and family, as does our monthly Blog (on our website). Days are longer, time stretches, and now is the perfect time to pump the brakes and enjoy.

As always, should you notice any noises or delays when you pump your vehicle’s brakes, do give us a call so we can get you safely back to summer fun!

In late April, we were invited to participate in the Altura Elementary Career Fair again this year (thank you Monique, school Principal and long-time customer)! Aurora AutoPros was among 8-10 other organizations who spent a Thursday morning answering mock interview questions from students in grades K-5th who needed to collect a stamp for each question asked/answered by each of the organizations.

We answered questions like, “If you could be an animal, what would you be and why?” and “Why did you choose this career?” or “Where did you go to school?” and “What advice would you give me?” and “What is one word that describes you?”

Students ranged from excited and outgoing to nervous and unable to make eye contact. Some were more comfortable asking questions in Spanish, others needed help reading the questions on their pages. But overall, we were delighted to answer, help them along, and watch their eyes start to sparkle when we responded and returned their questions. The practice they got in speaking to adults and freely engaging in curiosity was beyond uplifting. This was our 2nd year participating and we hope to be asked again!
